Caterpillars Nursery Newsletter – 17/4/2026

This week in Caterpillars Class we…

  • In the Caterpillars class this week we have been focusing on the letters in the children’s names. What the letter looks like and what it sounds like phonetically.
  • The children really enjoyed the flick painting activity. Each of the children were asked what letter their name began with and if they were able to identify it on the sheet from a random selection of letters. Once they had identified the letter they then had to use their gross motor skills to flick the paint from a distance and aim it at the corresponding letters.
  • We have also been exploring letters using playdough. The children had to dig through the playdough to find the different letters that were buried in it. Once they found them they identified the different letters of their name and tried to put them in the correct order of their name.
  • We have been looking and working on the children’s cutting skills too. We gave them lots of different materials to practise cutting with different textures. We spoke about what the different qualities of these were.
We enjoyed our group parachute games, counting and identifying different numbers.
