Caterpillars Nursery Newsletter – 27/3/2026

This week in Caterpillars Class we…

  • This week we have been exploring Volcanoes. Throughout the week the children have worked together to create their own volcano. They made paper mache, using thin paper, then crumpled it up in their hands and stuck it together to make the shape. They ripped different pieces and dipped it in the paste for it to stick. We spoke about what the children knew about volcanoes and they explored lava. The children learnt what happens to the lava when it cools down and how it creates rock.
  • The children did some ‘lava blow’ painting. Using straws, the children dipped the straws into the paint and then blew to make different lava marks across the paper. They really enjoyed mixing the different colours and creating different patterns.
  • The children really enjoyed playing with the volcano playdough. They took turns to add the ingredients and mix it all together to create the marbled playdough.
  • All the children also created their own volcano collages. Using different materials such as paint, tissue paper and cling film to create different textures on their picture.
